How Gig.tn Handles Currency & Payment in TND

Why We Use Tunisian Dinar — And How We Support International Clients Too

Updated over 2 months ago

At Gig.tn, all prices, fees, and payments are displayed in Tunisian Dinar (TND) — and that’s not a limitation, it’s a decision. A very deliberate and proud one.

We built this platform to support local freelancers, local talent, and the Tunisian economy. But that doesn’t mean we’re closed off to the world. In fact, Gig.tn is fully equipped to handle payments from international buyers, and we’re one of the very few platforms in Tunisia to pull this off legally, securely, and at scale.

Let’s break down how it works, who can use it, and why we made these choices.

Why TND? Why Not USD or EUR?

We get this question a lot. Other platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer.com use USD or EUR. But none of them are built for Tunisia — and almost none of them support Tunisian bank accounts, D17 cards, or local freelancers properly.

Gig.tn is different.

We chose to operate in TND because:

  • We’re a 100% Tunisian platform, built by Tunisians, for Tunisians

  • We work with local regulations, not against them

  • It allows us to support local banks, cards, and payment methods

  • It gives our users transparent, realistic pricing — no conversion guesswork, no hidden fees

Plus, freelancers in Tunisia deserve to earn in their own currency, without being forced to work around blocked services, foreign wallets, or confusing exchange rates.

🌍 But Can International Buyers Use Gig.tn?

Yes — absolutely.

Even though Gig.tn operates in TND, international clients can buy services easily. We accept:

  • International credit & debit cards (Visa, Mastercard)

  • Local Tunisian cards (both private and public banks)

  • D17 cards (Banque Centrale de Tunisie)

  • National and international prepaid cards

💡 In other words:

If your client is from Europe, the U.S., the Gulf, Canada, or anywhere else — they can buy services from you in seconds.

The platform handles the conversion and processes the payment in DNT, while they pay from their own card and currency.

No extra setup, no special tools needed. It just works.

🥇 First Platform in Tunisia to Pull This Off (Properly)

Gig.tn is the first and only escrow-based freelancing platform in Tunisia that:

  • Charges and pays in TND

  • Accepts both local AND international card payments

  • Handles KYC-compliant payouts

  • Protects both the freelancer and the client with escrow

We’re proud of that — not just because it's technically difficult, but because it opens doors.

Here's what this means for you:

  • You can finally work with international clients while staying 100% compliant

  • You can earn in DNT, withdraw through Tunisian bank accounts, and avoid all the PayPal/Payoneer headaches

  • You can bring foreign clients to a Tunisian platform that protects you, not just them

💬 Talking to International Clients: What Should You Say?

If a buyer is hesitant because they’ve never heard of Gig.tn, or they’re worried about TND:

“Yes, Gig.tn is based in Tunisia and uses the Tunisian Dinar, but you can pay with your international card, just like any other platform. It works like Fiverr or Upwork — the payment goes through secure escrow, and you’re fully protected.”

It’s that simple.

Once they pay, the money is held safely in escrow until the job is delivered. If anything goes wrong, Gig.tn’s dispute team steps in.

💵 Conversion Rates and Currency Display

For now, all services are priced in DNT only. If you're an international buyer, your card will be charged the equivalent of the DNT price in your local currency.

We recommend:

  • Checking your bank’s exchange rate before ordering

  • Understanding that some foreign banks may add a small currency conversion fee

We don’t control those fees — but we do keep Gig.tn’s platform charges low and predictable.

🏦 Freelancer Withdrawals: Tunisian-Focused, Globally Aware

If you're a freelancer in Tunisia:

  • You get paid in DNT

  • You can withdraw via:

    • Konnect (free)

    • Bank transfer (10 DNT fee)

    • Check (free if over 1000 DNT)

International freelancers (outside Tunisia) can use Gig.tn to work and sell services, but must be aware that payout is in TND and requires a Tunisian-compatible withdrawal method (more global options coming in the future).

✅ Final Thoughts

Gig.tn is not trying to be a Tunisian version of Fiverr. We’re building something that works better for Tunisian freelancers, while still welcoming global clients who want trustworthy, talented professionals — and secure transactions.

So yes, we use TND proudly.

Yes, we accept international payments easily.
And yes — this is just the beginning.
